Games rage

There are some games out there that exist to bring out the inner anger of the players. Whether due to the difficulty, challenge or absolute absurdity, there are ways in which games can frustrate players. From excessive difficulty to challenging puzzles or lack of directions on where to go, players love to play, but sometimes this can inspire a great release of anger while continuing to play a wide range of games.

1. Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy

Talking about games that cause anger is difficult without mentioning Bennett Foddy's masterpiece. Getting Over It is an indie game in which a man in a cauldron is in charge of climbing a mountain of strange objects, using only a hammer to propel himself and his cauldron upwards. The game is narrated by Bennett Foddy, who talks about many things, including the game industry and how it changed over time. The challenges and steep cliffs of Getting Over It have caused a lot of anger over the years.

2. ♪

A game that has recently gained a lot of popularity among streamers and YouTubers, Only Up is another climbing game that adopted the style of games like Getting Over It. A young boy from Favela begins to scale a strange variety of objects, with a sequence of bizarre and philosophical narrative that takes place during the game. The true source of anger of Only Up is that many of the objects on which players have to jump are extremely complicated and make it very easy to fall. Also, if players fall, they can find themselves at the beginning of the game without checkpoint along the path.

3. Cuphead

For many players, the most frustrating moments of their video game life occur against boss in platformers who simply cannot understand. Constantly dying against powerful bosses is one of the most frustrating ideas that many players experience, but Cuphead brings this idea to a completely different level in one of the most difficult cooperative games ever made. In Cuphead, one or two players have to work together to deal with a number of levels, mainly with complicated bosses requiring incredible precision to be defeated. At the end of some of these levels, players will already find themselves experiencing incredible levels of frustration.

4. Pogostuck

Pogostuck is another climbing game, but with a terrible twist. Instead of a game like Getting Over It, which requires players to climb on a mountain trapped in a cauldron but with a solid control over their hammer, Pogostuck puts players on an elastic stick and forces them to find a way to overcome even more frightening obstacles. The difficulty of Pogostuck is huge, but before facing the horrible obstacles that players must overcome, they must learn the very difficult commands of the elastic stick, leaving them with various levels of perfection to reach on the commands before they can hope to defeat the game.

5. Super Meat

One of the most remarkable platform games for its difficulty, Super Meat Boy is another indie game created to be frustrating. Instead of simply trying to climb a mountain, Super Meat Boy is full of over 300 levels and those created by players, so frustration never ends up in this very important indie game. While having fewer chances of horrible falls compared to some of the other games that cause anger, Super Meat Boy is still an extremely difficult game that prompted many players to stop over the years.

6. Jump King

Jump King is another game focused on moving up, and similarly to Pogostuck or Only Up, it is too easy to go back when trying to climb higher. Jump King has simple commands, but the precise nature of many jumps that must be made makes the whole game very difficult to complete. Although Jump King is considered by many a little easier than some of the other famous games that cause anger, it has always caused a lot of anger when players fail to make the most difficult jumps.

7. The Soulsborne Series

Although it is difficult to identify a single chapter in this thrilling series of Soulslike games, this series induces greater anger thanks to the games made by FromSoftware, where all their games are designed with an old school difficulty level that few games can match. From the beginning of Demon’s Souls to Elden Ring, the series has a long list of extremely demanding bosses requiring players a large number of attempts to be defeated. The challenge of this series and the way it irritates players are unprecedented compared to any other great video game saga in history.
