# Privacy and cookies

**Last updated: 10 September 2026**

This page describes what data www.alemasone.com collects, who processes it and what rights you have. It is written around how the site actually works.

## Data controller

Alessandro Masone — **contact@alemasone.com**

## How the site is built

Alemasone is a static site: pages are ready-made files, not assembled from a database on every visit. **There is no members' area, no registration, no comments, no newsletter and no forms to fill in.** Reading the articles requires no data from you.

The data below is collected by the third-party services the site uses, not by me directly.

## Server logs

The site is hosted on **Cloudflare Pages** (Cloudflare, Inc.). Like any web server, it automatically records IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, browser type and operating system.

This is used to deliver pages, protect the site from abuse and attacks, and diagnose faults. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

## Visit statistics — Google Analytics 4

I use **Google Analytics 4** (Google Ireland Ltd.) to see how many people read the site, which articles and from which countries. With your consent, Analytics sets cookies and collects the browsing path, browser language, device type and an approximate location derived from the IP address; according to Google, Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland and have not consented, Analytics sets no cookies and reads none: it can only send signals without identifiers (for example, that a page was opened), which cannot identify you or link two visits together.

I don't use it to identify individuals and I don't combine it with other data. Legal basis: consent; for the cookieless signals only, legitimate interest in measuring, in aggregate, how the site works.

You can opt out across all sites by installing [Google's browser add-on](https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).

## Advertising — Google AdSense

The site is funded through **Google AdSense** (Google Ireland Ltd.). Google and other advertising vendors use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads based partly on your previous visits to this and other sites, measure their performance and avoid showing you the same one repeatedly.

If you have consented, ads may be **personalised** — chosen according to your interests. If you have not, you will see non-personalised or "limited" ads, chosen from the page content and your approximate location, with no profiling.

The full list of vendors, with each one's purposes, is in the consent banner (below), in the part where you manage your choices.

- How Google uses information from sites that use its services: [policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites](https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites)
- How Google uses advertising cookies: [policies.google.com/technologies/ads](https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads)
- Google's personalised ads: [myadcenter.google.com](https://myadcenter.google.com/)
- Other vendors' personalised ads: [youronlinechoices.eu](https://www.youronlinechoices.eu/)

Legal basis: consent. For some purposes, certain vendors rely on their own legitimate interest: the banner shows which ones and lets you object.

## The consent banner

On your first visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, a consent message appears. It is run by Google's consent platform, certified under IAB Europe's Transparency and Consent Framework. Until you choose, Analytics sets no cookies and ads are not personalised.

You can accept, refuse, or pick purposes and vendors one by one. Refusing does not stop you reading anything.

Your choice is remembered by a cookie set by the banner itself, so you aren't asked on every page. You can change it or withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it:

A similar link also appears at the bottom of the site's pages.

## Fonts

The site's typeface (Manrope) is loaded from **Google Fonts** servers. To deliver the file, your IP address reaches Google. Legal basis: legitimate interest in the visual rendering of the pages.

## If you write to me

If you write to **contact@alemasone.com**, your address and the content of your message are processed to reply and, where needed, to keep a record of the matter. I don't use them for anything else and I don't pass them on.

## Cookies

**I set no cookies of my own.** Any cookies you find, including on the alemasone.com domain, are set by Google's scripts: Analytics and AdSense, described above (where required, only after consent), and the consent banner, which has to remember your choice.

You can delete or block them in your browser settings — search for "cookies" in Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge. Blocking them all does not stop you reading the site: no feature depends on cookies. If you also delete the banner's cookie, you will be asked for consent again on your next visit.

## Transfers outside the European Union

Google and Cloudflare are US companies and may process data outside the European Economic Area. Transfers rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision for the United States and, where needed, on standard contractual clauses.

## How long

Server logs are kept for as long as security requires, typically a few weeks. Analytics data is kept according to Google's default setting (14 months). Emails stay in the mailbox while the matter is open, then are archived or deleted.

## Your rights

At any time you can ask to **access** your data, to have it **corrected** or **erased**, to **restrict** or **object to** processing, and to **withdraw consent** already given. Write to **contact@alemasone.com**.

If you believe the processing is unlawful, you can complain to the supervisory authority in your country; in Italy this is the [Garante per la protezione dei dati personali](https://www.garanteprivacy.it/).

## Minors

The site is not aimed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect their data. If you notice that it has, write to me and I will remove it.

## Links to other sites

Articles link to sites I don't run. Once you leave here, that site's privacy policy applies, not this one.

## Changes

If the site changes — one service more, one less — I update this page and the date at the top.
